The Aaliyah Biopic Has The Internet Pissed!
The Aaliyah biopic has been a sensitive subject for all her fans and family since the news broke of its release. Aaliyah’s family was totally against the film being made for television from the start. They felt their daughter was an icon and should’ve had a motion picture. I think it is wrong that people are allowed to make flims about their loved ones without their permission.
Anyway the movie premiered last night and the internet is responding in a big bad way. The public has completely dismissed the film and has turned to meme’s to express their anger. As I mention in a earlier blog I thought the casting for this film was all wrong. The people who were asked to play Missy, Timbaland, and Dame Dash were a total misfire.
These meme’s are hilarious and the people have spoken. I knew this would happen without the backing of her family. The movie didn’t have any of her music or any support from those whom really knew her. Alexandra Shipp sung all of her songs for the movie due to them not having the rights to her music. Vibe magazine reported if you watched the biopic you won’t learn anything that you already didn’t know about the “Rock the Boat” singer.
The Haughton family is working on a motion picture that will feature Aaliyah’s music and personal stories. I hope that this story will be better than the lifetime movie. I was going to watch it but the response is making it very hard for me to engage.
It rubbed me the wrong way to even see it move forward without her family. Aaliyah meant so much to us as a generation and was definitely apart of my growing up. Baby tee’s and big jeans with dark shades was in my wardrobe because of her. She was truly a trendsetter. When she died it was hard for us all.
I truly think that this story should have ONLY been told by her family. Wendy Williams production company produced the film for Lifetime and now the internet is coming for her too.
Did you watch the Aaliayh movie? Do you think it was good? What’s your opinion on the movie?
Here’s what Timbaland Thought…
Here are some of the meme’s in regards to the Aaliyah movie and Lifetime as a network.
