Destiny Has Lips that Are Devine! New Lipstick Line Ladies!
Destiny I see you have started a lipstick line called “The Devine Lips of Destiny” please tell me how all this came to light?
The idea started about 8 months ago.
I just put it together to wear out, but I had no idea the impact it would make.
It then became my Trademark. Destiny’s glitter lips.
Every time I went out with my lipstick on, everyone would ask me “Where I got it” and how they could find and buy it, And I would say “Well it’s mine, I created it, and it will be on sale very soon”.
At first it was a thought, then a concept and eventually I just put them both into action.
While creating the line and the concept, I wanted to create something that’s never been done before. But more importantly something that spoke from my heart.
What is your favorite shade of your Lipstick? How did you go about naming each shade?
My personal favorite shade of the line is Purple. Which represents STRENGTH.
Because personally i have been through so much, and it was strength that has brought me through.
Also, its my (Inspirational Mom) Tina Thompson’s Favorite color, and she as well as her Dance Company (SKIN) has helped me through so much, and she reminded me a lot of my Best Friend my Grandma, they both signify true women of Strength.
I went about naming each shade through life experiences, I based it a lot on the emotions that I felt the most. Each one represents a step of my life, of my emotional journey.
What message do you want to get across to your following about these Lipsticks and are you going to making any other cosmetics?
The message that I want to get across, is that anything is possible and never to give up.
Hard work and determination always pays off.
Always shoot for the stars and never allow someone to dictate your next steps.
Be a leader and only allow positive influences in your life.DLD is truly special to me and I am truly excited to share with the world.
Now that you are an entertainer, starting to dabble in cosmetics, I see you are also starring in a new Indie film called Saving Julian Please tell us more about it?
Saving Julian, is a film about Homeless Gay Youth in NYC.
Its all centered around everyday, real life situations.
It saddens me that our children are being thrown out of their homes. Unfortunately, the numbers are growing.
Parents are throwing their children out because they are gay, and a lot of it is ignorance, if people don’t educate themselves. they will never understand, but some people, don’t want to understand. Which is truly so heartbreaking and terrible to me.
I also can relate to the situation of being homeless and all. Its tough. But it takes a lot of power and strength to pull through.
I was so happy and honored to be a part of this film. I hope that I was able to touch hundreds of lives through it.
The scenes I have watched via Facebook has a very “Paris is
Burning” feel to them, Why do you think this is common in the Gay community?
I think a lot of it happens in the Gay Community because of peoples misunderstanding, religion and societies stigma.
Are there any upcoming projects in film that you care currently working on? If so what are they?
I have a lot of good things in store. I don’t wanna give away to much.
I do have another film coming out very soon. Let’s just say, TV is for sure on my Radar.
What is better to you the stage or film?
Honestly, I love Both. But stage is a little easier, but i love the challenge of both.
Now let us not forget that Ms. Devine is a force on the stage when
you do an identical rendition of R&B and Pop Queen Beyonce..when is
the next show or what’s next for her?Well, I have a lot of amazing things coming up. I am truly excited to be working on new projects with no boundaries. I love to create. And that’s what I will continue to keep doing.
I am writing and producing a new show
and tour for the 2013 season.
What is your favorite part of performing Beyonce songs?
Well, Its Beyonce. Thats number one. And i honestly just love the strength and power she conveys and how she commands the stage.
She is a force to be reckoned with.
Honestly overall, I really love her music, and i feel her when i perform. Anyone can perform a song, but to impersonate someone, is a whole lot different.
I feel like I connect with her so much, on a different level. I feel so blessed, every time I perform any of her songs people say “On my god, You are Beyonce”. I work so hard at it, so I am truly happy that it comes across on stage.
Besides Beyonce who is your inspiration for what you do?
My Grandma is one of my Biggest Inspirations, and my mother, my sister, I have so many inspirations.
God is also one of my Inspirations, I have a really huge connection with him and with myself and spirituality. Knowing who you are really creates a confidence that no one care tear down, or take away from you.
Also, Inspire myself a lot too. I have learned in life, you have to be your biggest fan, you have to believe in yourself, your dreams and what you do.
We are our biggest fans, and others will follow, if you believe, they’ll believe.
One more thing. Remember to love yourself, its the greatest love of all. ; )
