Jem and the Holograms: EPIC FAIL!

Jem and the Holograms trailer has been released and I’m pissed!

After watching the trailer, it was clear whomever made the film did not understand the cartoon at all. Jem aka Jerrica Benton was a full grown adult who took over the family business after her dad went missing. Starlight was the center of the show along with Synergy.

Synergy was the entire reason she was able to conceal her identity. The preview did not mention the Misfits nor the Stingers who were the rivals of the Holograms. Most importantly they didn’t mention Jerrica’s magical earrings that she used to be Jem.

In the new movie Jerrica is a teenager who lives with her aunt. The new Jem gets discovered after a YouTube post goes viral. Her identity was concealed by eyeshadow and a bad wig! Before you panic the only thing they did keep from the original cartoon was her sisters which are the Holograms.

I understand trying to make the cartoon more relatable to this generation, however Jem is from my childhood and I don’t appreciate them changing the damn story. Then they had the nerve to use 80’s teen icon Molly Ringwald as the new Jem’s aunt! Thanks for ruining everyone’s childhood Hollywood!
