Jersey is Naked Loves A U-Niq Creation
Katina Washington owner and designer of U-Niq Creations sent me some of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry for my sexy lobes. Washington creates each piece with love and care for her customers.
I was able to sit down with Katina to get further insight into how she started making these pieces, and where she see’s herself in future.
When did you start making accessories and why?
U~Niq launched in 2013. For myself, several years ago, I would upcycle old accessories. I would get a rush from the creative aspect of upcycling. I would envision taking simple earring and making them into something funky that stood out.
What’s the inspiration behind making pieces?
The inspiration was birthed into my creativity as a child. I was raised in a home that had little to no resources allocated to purchase clothing/accessories Etc. (Anything related to fashion. Truth is, when you are an artist & have a little, hard times are a platform for creativity.
What’s difference about your line than the competitors?
U~Niq accessories are for trend setters. My customers generally are at the forefront of fashion. We create ensemble for that core audience.
What can we expect in the future? A store?
I expect to continue to accessorizing women all around the world. One ear, neck, arm at a time.
Lastly, what do you want people to know most about you and your company?
I think it is important for people to understands my process. When I handcraft accessories, I go into my art room, I meditate, and create. Each accessory is made with love. My heart melts when others can appreciate my artistic creations. I’m not out to be rich, just make a lil money doing what I love to do!
