Kanye West “Slaves” Video Shoot Shut Down in Houston!
Jersey’s Response:
I am not surprised that they would shut down Kanye West’s video for the song “Slaves” in the south. People don’t want to be reminded of that time period. Although slavery exist in other ways today. Are we being hung from trees or burned in our houses sometimes but not like it was. Slavery is a very touchy subject for people. A subject that black people are not really allowed to talk about without being considered angry or bitter.
When we talk about slavery we are holding onto the past, but when other races speak out it is in remembrance of a difficult time. I never could understand that. Why is it that we need to get over the fact that we can’t trace our history, we have no idea what blood runs through our veins, or the fact the racial brutality still exist?
It’s almost like society designed it for us to work much harder and longer to prove what is no test for other races. There is no reason I had to grow up hearing “Your not like other black people” shameful. Slavery divided, damaged, and almost destroyed a race of people. I guess the facts makes me bitter.
A Houston screening of Kanye West‘s “New Slaves” video was shut down on Friday night, theHouston Chronicle reports.

Houston police arrived on the scene and ordered the gathering crowd to disperse or be arrested for trespassing. The screening’s premature end apparently wasn’t because of an unruly crowd; according to the Chronicle, those gathered were excited, yet respectful.

The two other Houston screening locations had issues, too. Technical difficulties apparently hampered one location, while another was a no-show entirely, with fan Janet Quiroa revealing to the newspaper that the only entertainment was having sprinklers come on and “obnoxious people screaming Kanye threats.”

West debuted “New Slaves” last week in a similar fashion, with building projections around the world, including New York (a full map of screenings is located on West’s website). Houston’s projections were part of the second wave of screenings in preparation for West’s new album, Yeezus, which is set for a June 18 release.
