Lauryn Hill Sentenced on Tax Evasion Charges! 3 Months Jail Time!

Lauryn Hill was in court yesterday and was sentenced to three months in jail due to tax evasion from the years of 2004-2009. Hill paid up all the money owed prior to sentencing so according to her lawyer she doesn’t owe anymore money to the government. Hill has been on hiatus for over ten years stating she left the music business and spotlight out of fear of her life and her families.

Hill was actually facing up to 36 months in jail for this crime but paying her taxes and the plea of fear didn’t keep her for being sentenced to three months in jail. CNN reports that she will surrender July 8th 2013. So many African-American celebrities find themselves in tax issues. I don’t understand why people think that they can get out of paying moneys owed on moneys made. I’d rather pay whatever I need to pay to the government and just be done with it. These crimes are totally unnecessary to go to jail for.

Why doesn’t anymore have a good accountant to make sure that everything is paid? When these cases come up I am always confused by this. The more money you make the more you need to pay back to the government because of your tax bracket that is just common knowledge. This is sad because Lauryn has children and three months away from them is awhile but it is better than 36 months any day. I just hope she has learned her lesson about these taxes because she is at much better use outside the jail than in.
