Paula Deen: “They Saw What I Worked for and Wanted It” Today Show Interview (Video)

Paula Deen has a tearful interview with Matt Lauer on “The Today” Show. Deen came on the show to talk about her recent split from Food Network and Smithfield Pork Company.

Although we aren’t a hundred percent clear if Deen is a racist I do see that she is sorry. Honestly people are who were raised in a different time seem to have different views on race. I am sure that something she said thirty years ago shouldn’t be held against her, right?

Well the world has spoken and dubbed the butter queen of the south a racist. I am sure she may have said “nigger” more than once and she may have even meant it but I think due to all of the buisness around her falling before her eyes is teaching her real quick that maybe the “N” word is something you should lose from your vocabulary.

I was reading some of the Facebook post reactions to the incident and it seems most of the white users are comparing Deen use of the word to Hip Hop. Everyone knows if you can’t blame anything else blame Hip Hop! One user wrote well “if Paula Deen is racist for saying the “N” 30 years ago why aren’t we calling every rapper a racist?

This is a good question. I think I can answer it. I think African-Americans of this generation by using the word try to take the negativity from the word to give it less power when heard or used. In this case we knew that Deen was coming from a negative place stating “We should have some niggers dress up in white shirts and black jackets that there is a plantation wedding!”

I’ve never heard a black person use the “N” word towards another black person in reference to them being a slave let alone being on a damn plantation. Honestly I still like Paula Deen I think she can cook and now I know she probably thinks I’m a nigger. Even though she would never say it or say she has said it again isn’t it nice to live in the land of the know?

I hope she gets it together. All jokes aside I hope she can grow from this.
