Should Your Period Come With A Day Off?
Periods can be the thorn in a woman’s side or a 72-hour light flow break.Whatever your flow a UK based company named Coexist cares. The director, Bae Bexter has implemented paid time off for your period monthly.
“We wanted a policy in place which recognizes and allows women to take time for their body’s natural cycle without putting this under the label of illness.
There is a misconception that time off makes a business unproductive – actually, it’s about synchronizing work with the natural cycles of the body.” said Bexter.
Can something like this even exist in the workplace? People are truly divided on the matter. Some women are all for the extra days to rest up and others feel it was a smack in the face.
Claiming that the idea of this policy implies that they can’t handle their work load due to their periods. Some even said that the policy made it appear as if women were the weaker sex.
As a woman who has suffered from horrid period pain since 11, the days off would benefit me greatly. The excessive fatigue and pain does make it hard to focus on your daily work tasks.
I don’t feel it is any different from taking off for the common cold. People advise you to get plenty of rest then. So why if you suffer from painful period you are made to tough it out? This is apart of my anatomy but I need to be strong and deal says some.
I am made to deal with something I can’t avoid. Yes, pregnancy or menopause does stop your period but that comes with its own body complications. There is no real solution for avoiding what’s natural.
There are pain management options. However those options are lack luster. Over the counter meds, change in diet, or other methods give me small amounts of relief to my monthly symptoms. I think something like this would work for woman in my position.
My period situation doesn’t speak for all. Some women don’t suffer from bad periods. They get it for three days, light flow, and their biggest complaint is wearing a sanitary napkin.
I can see how something like this wouldn’t interested someone in this position as they are not affected in that way.
I think that this would be an interesting option to have for those who wanted to take it. I think it should be regulated by documentation from your medical doctor.
My question to you all is, would you want to have a few paid days off to recover from your period or is this a step in the wrong direction for women?
